What if your child practised speaking once a week?
Most kids only speak publicly once a year at Speech Day. That's not enough to build anything. #ASpeechAWeek gives your child a new prompt every Friday, a simple structure, and the weekly habit that turns quiet kids into confident speakers.
Speech Day vs #ASpeechAWeek
Speech Day (Once a Year)
One shot. 300 people watching. Weeks of pressure. The child memorises a poem someone else wrote and performs it under stress. This is not confidence building. This is a stress test with an audience.
#ASpeechAWeek (Every Week)
Low stakes. Small audience. Their own words. 2 minutes at the dinner table with a parent who's listening. Week after week, the fear shrinks and the confidence grows. This is how you actually build a speaker.
Why once a week changes everything
Confidence doesn't come from one big performance. It comes from small, repeated moments of trying.
Every skill is weekly
Piano is weekly. Swimming is weekly. Football is weekly. Nobody expects one recital a year to produce a musician. Speaking works exactly the same way.
The brain needs repetition
Each time your child speaks, neural pathways for language, confidence, and emotional regulation get stronger. Weekly practice keeps those pathways active.
Fear shrinks with exposure
The amygdala responds less to familiar situations. Week 1 is scary. Week 4 is normal. Week 8 is fun. That shift only happens through repetition.
Home is the safest stage
The dinner table is the lowest-stakes environment possible. If your child can practise there, every other stage gets easier. Assemblies, interviews, everything.
Habits beat talent
A child who practises weekly for 12 weeks will outperform a naturally "gifted" speaker who never practises. Confidence is a skill. Skills are built through repetition.
Speech Day isn't enough
One memorised poem, once a year, in front of 300 people. That's not confidence building. Real confidence is built in small, safe, weekly moments at home.
Five steps. Two minutes.
No equipment needed. No special skills. Just you, your child, and a prompt.

The Sprout Model
When your child speaks, these are the four things our coaches listen for. You can use the same framework at home.
Naturalness
Do they look comfortable? Are they being themselves, not performing a character? Naturalness is the foundation everything else builds on.
Voice
Can you hear them clearly? Are they varying their tone or speaking in a flat monotone? Volume, pace, and expression all live here.
Words
Are their ideas organised? Do they have a beginning, middle, and end? Word choice, structure, and clarity of thought.
Character
Are they respectful? Honest? Showing empathy? Great speaking isn't just technique. It's about the person behind the words.

Normal, especially the first week or two. Don't force it. Try doing the prompt yourself first and let them watch. Start with a story prompt instead of an opinion one. Even 10 seconds counts.
Yes. The prompts are in English but your child can respond in whatever language feels natural. The goal is building the habit of organised verbal expression. Language is secondary.
