Most people speak at a fraction of who they actually are. Not because they lack skills, but because they have never been given permission to show up fully. That is what we change.

Why most speaking courses produce the wrong result

Most courses start with techniques. They teach you how to stand, how to gesture, how to structure a slide deck. You leave with a set of tools. And then you get to your next presentation and you still feel like a fraud, because nothing you learned changed who you feel like when you are standing in front of people.

The tools were never the problem.

What stops most professionals from speaking effectively is not that they cannot structure an argument. It is that they have a fractured relationship with their own voice. They have spent years making themselves smaller in rooms, second-guessing whether their perspective is worth sharing, performing a version of themselves they think the audience wants to see. By the time they pick up a speaking technique, they are trying to put a roof on a house with no walls.

The real issue

Most people who say they are bad at public speaking are actually very good at communicating in the right conditions. They talk freely with people they trust. They express themselves clearly when they feel safe. The problem is not ability. It is permission. They have never given themselves permission to show up that fully in front of an audience.

Sprout works differently. We build the speaker before we build the speaking. That means the first part of every programme is about you: your relationship with your own voice, the specific patterns holding you back, your natural communication style, and what your best speaker version actually looks and sounds like. Only once that foundation is solid do we move to technique.

The result is not someone who has memorised how to gesture or learned to project. It is someone who no longer dreads speaking, because they have stopped trying to be a version of themselves they are not. They show up, and the room can feel the difference.

From coaching
“I came in thinking I needed to learn techniques. I left realising the techniques had never been the point. I just needed to stop apologising for being in the room.”

How the Sprout Model works

Every programme at Sprout runs on one methodology: the Sprout Model. Three pillars, developed in the right order. You cannot shortcut this sequence, because each pillar is built on the one before it.

Pillar 1

Naturalness

Who you are as a person and as a speaker. Your authentic style, your values, your real perspective. We grow this. We never replace it.

Pillar 2

Voice

How you deliver what you have to say. Breathing, pace, pitch, volume, pause. Most people use about 30% of what their voice can actually do.

Pillar 3

Words

How you shape meaning. Structure, word choice, persuasion, storytelling. Language shapes how people think and feel long after you leave the room.

The sequence matters because Naturalness is the foundation. A speaker who knows exactly who they are and what they stand for does not need to perform confidence. They already have it. Voice and Words build on top of that. Without it, they are just decoration.

This is why every programme at Sprout starts with a proper diagnosis of where you are as a speaker. Not a one-size assessment, but a real look at your specific patterns, your natural style, and what your best speaker version looks like for you. Nobody gets the same programme, because nobody is the same speaker.

The Sprout approach

We are not trying to make you polished. We are trying to make you effective, confident and natural, to the point where you no longer dread speaking, but accept who you are and give yourself full permission to release your best version to the world.

SproutHub: the platform behind every programme

Public speaking is not something you learn by watching. You learn by doing, getting specific feedback, and doing it again better. Every Sprout programme runs through SproutHub, our custom coaching platform.

Powered by SproutHub

Your personal coaching dashboard

You get a SproutHub account from Day 1. Your coach assigns video speaking exercises between sessions. You record, you review your own footage first, then your coach sends detailed written feedback within 48 hours. Not “good job, speak up a bit more.” Specific: what happened in minute two, why it happened, and exactly what to try next session.

SproutHub coaching platform dashboard

No other coaching brand in Kenya does this systematically. The video feedback loop is what separates a workshop from real development. It also means location is no longer a barrier. You get the same coaching quality whether you are in Nairobi, Mombasa, or anywhere online.

What to look for in any speaking programme

Before you commit to any programme, ask these questions. A good course answers yes to most of them.

  • Does it start with you, not the techniques? A programme that opens with how to stand and gesture before it has understood who you are as a speaker is putting the cart before the horse.
  • Is there video feedback? You cannot see yourself from the inside. Recording yourself and receiving specific, personalised coaching on what you actually did is the only mechanism that creates lasting change.
  • Is it personalised? Generic advice applied to everyone produces generic results. Ask whether the coaching is tailored to your specific patterns and communication style.
  • Is it long enough to matter? Eight weeks minimum for adults. Anything less is a taster. Real confidence under pressure takes time and repetition to build.
  • Can you measure progress? Before and after video comparisons, tracked milestones, a clear picture of what changed and why. A certificate is not evidence of transformation.
  • Does it aim for effective, not polished? Polished speakers lose rooms all the time. Effective, natural, confident speakers hold them. Be careful of programmes that are optimising for the wrong outcome.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, and this is actually the majority of people who come through the programme. Confidence is not a personality trait you either have or do not have. It is a state you access when certain conditions are met. The programme is designed to build those conditions specifically, and to remove the patterns that are blocking them. Most people who describe themselves as not naturally confident find that changes significantly within the first few sessions.
Toastmasters gives you practice time and peer feedback in a club setting. It is useful. Sprout gives you personalised coaching built around your specific communication style and the patterns holding you back. The methodology starts with who you are, not with the skills. And SproutHub means your coach is watching you speak between sessions, not just during them. If you want a practice community, Toastmasters is great. If you want a coach who builds a programme around you specifically, that is what we do.
Most people feel a shift after the first two or three sessions, not because a technique clicked, but because something in how they relate to speaking changed. Visible, reliable improvement under pressure usually comes around Sessions 5 and 6. The full programme runs 8 sessions, and the change from Session 1 to Session 8 is significant. Mastery, the ability to speak from genuine ease in any situation, takes more time beyond that. We say that honestly.
Often the people who come in with the strongest technical skills are the ones who benefit most from the identity work in Pillar 1. They have built a very competent version of themselves on stage, but they know it is not their full version. They deliver well but feel hollow doing it. The Sprout Model addresses exactly that. Many of our Executive Coaching clients are highly skilled speakers working on precisely this.
Both work well. If most of your high-stakes speaking happens on Zoom or Teams, the online course is actually more relevant because you are practising in the exact environment where you need these skills. If you need to master physical presence in a room, in-person is the better choice. Either way, the coaching runs through SproutHub and the quality is identical.
Yes, and we can help you make the case internally. Communication skills have direct, measurable impact on meeting effectiveness, client relationships, and leadership credibility. We can provide programme outlines, methodology documentation, and outcomes data to support your internal business case. Get in touch and we will put the right materials together for you.
